The Impact
The Unusual Suspects uses theatre as a tool to heal and empower communities coping with such challenging issues as poverty, unemployment, poor education, and gang violence. Through performing arts mentoring, The Unusual Suspects provides the means and support necessary for youth to develop self-esteem, respect and tolerance of others as well as the communication, coping and behavioral skills necessary to make such positive life choices as staying in school, choosing resolutions over violence, avoiding gang involvement and overcoming difficulties at home.

Mentoring has proven to be an effective means of combating a range of complex issues:
- 98% of youth mentored stay in school
- 98% of youth mentored did not become a teen parent

- 85% of youth mentored did not use drugs

Among youth who participate in arts enrichment programs in Los Angeles County detention camps compared to those who do not:
